A love of the outdoors is something many caravanners and motorhome users share. The freedom to travel through and stay in some of the most beautiful places in the UK and Europe plays a huge part in the appeal of touring. So it's no surprise that hiking, walking and other outdoor activities are popular hobbies of caravan and motorhome users. For those looking for location inspiration and a goal to conquer, the Wainwrights present an irresistible challenge. The Wainwrights have also starred in a recent BBC documentary series with Julia Bradbury - who, incidentally, was a celebrity guest at the Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC in October. What Are the Wainwrights? The Wainwrights are the 214 fells included in A. Wainwright's Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells . The fells are all located in the Lake District, which of course is well known for it's natural beauty and charm. The books, written between 1955 and 1966, have sold over 2 million copies worldwide, and contain hand illustrated images of features of each of the areas described. Are they difficult? According to the Ramblers Association, the youngest person to complete all 214 Wainwrights was a 6 year old boy in 2008, so the walks are accessible to most, though some routes include ”scrambling” and long distances (England's highest peak, Scafell Pike, is included). The key is in fully reading the guides themselves to ensure you're comfortable with the level of activity involved. As with all fell walking, make sure to consult Safe In The Hills before setting off so you're completely prepared. Have you walked any of the Wainwright Fells? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter!
