Changes to the NCC Service Requirements

(CO Alarm Testing)

As of the 1st March 2018, the NCC recommend all AWS NCC Approved Workshops to test CO alarms (where fitted) in caravans and motorhomes during an annual service.

CO Alarms are life saving devices and it is important that the sensor detects if the presence of carbon monoxide (CO) reaches an unsafe level.

The NCC has been investigating the need for sensor inclusive testing of CO alarms. During this investigation it has become clear that CO alarms should be tested annually to ensure they continue to sense CO.

Furthermore, following a study of CO alarm manufacturer’s instructions, it has also become clear that the majority of leisure vehicles are fitted with CO alarms with instructions that actually state that a sensor test should be undertaken annually.

As per NCC Guidelines Teesside Caravans will be offering CO testing on ALL units (that are fitted with alarms) using the NCC verified gas as part of its Verified Products Register ( DETECTAGAS®) during a normal service There will be an additional charge of £5 per caravan (if fitted with CO alarm) for the full NCC Approved test.
